So, I'm told it is possible to shoot a Beretta 92 9mm round through a 96 .40 gun. I'm not too familiar with conversion kits and what all would need converted, so here's the situation. I have a Beretta 92 in 9mm and a Beretta 96 in .40. Love the guns, but looking at selling or trading the Beretta 92 because I am wanting something a little smaller to fit my hands better so I am looking at either an M&P 9mm or a Ruger SR9. But, I do want to be able to keep shooting 9mm rounds through my Beretta 96 as well. Any information about this as well as input on the M&P vs a Ruger SR9 would be most appreciated.

I had gotten rid of my Beretta 92 but had a spare barrel lying around. I tried it in my model 96. It fit and shot just fine. Moving the locking block parts back and forth was a complete pita, however. A 92/96 locking block kit from Beretta cost me a total incl. tax & shipping of $46.42. It's available on their website. Of course, having a barrel at no cost helped a lot. Good luck!
