Bipartisan Group Of Senators On Verge Of A Deal To Expand Background Checks | Weasel Zippers

A bipartisan group of senators is on the verge of a deal that would expand background checks to all private firearms sales with limited exemptions, but significant disagreements remain on the issue of keeping records of private gun sales, according to aides familiar with the talks.

Time to get to the phones and email again. Especially if you know anyone in the states with the senators

Has Reid said he would even allow a floor vote? Even if it passes the Senate, it can't pass the House. And this assumes that a bold Senator wouldn't filibuster.

And I really hope your last sentence is a miscommunication. You do realize that all states have Senators, right?

Federal regulation of intra-state commerce? If we had a decent Court that would be a no brainer decision IMO.

You're right. Unfortuately, years ago the SCOTUS decided that anything that remotely, possibly, even influences interstate commerce is subject to the commerce clause.

“There are laws on the books right now that prohibit the illegal sale of firearms to people who shouldn’t be buying them, people who shouldn’t be selling them, and they’re just not being enforced as well as they could be,” Goodlatte told C-SPAN. “It would save a lot of lives if they were.”

It's easier to pass laws than enforce them. The former gets you accolades for "doing something", the latter costs taxpayers money and freedom.

And up next they will be banning online sales. Just watch I bet you that's what they'll do.

IL Senator Mark Kirk (R) has stated since his recent stroke that he is more determined to get things done and isn't interested in what he believes to be any partisan politics, therefore he is gonna do everything in his power to work with (capitulate to) the likes of Shumer (D) NY to craft gun legislation.
