Because that's where they committed their crimes. They should face justice at the hands of the people whose citizens they murdered.
We have a winner. Just as KSM committed crimes against this country and should serve time in our prisons, the Blackwater murderers should do the same.

So, legally speaking, seeing as these men were tried and convicted in an American court, under American law, what would the legal basis be for sending them to Iraq to serve their sentence?

We've extradited people before, (after being convicted and sentenced and even serving time) to foreign countries to be tried and sentenced for crimes. Noriega comes immediately to mind. We have plenty of precedent for it. Shoot, we extradite 90 year old nazis to stand trial. These scum need to be extradited back to the country they committed their crimes in.

But we sent Noriega and the old Nazis back to the country that they were originally from. The Blackwater contractors have already been sentenced in their country of origin so it is not an accurate comparison. So what is the legal basis for sending them to Iraq?

We also just extradited a US marine to the Philippines, just a day or so ago, for murder. He wasn't from the PI, but he's certainly going to pay for his crimes there. The basis is to send them to the place they committed their crimes to face justice. It's really simple enough.
