    I don't think the year of manufacture is as important as the ammunition. If it uses fixed ammunition I believe it is considered to be a firearm. If the ammunition is not fixed (no cartridge case), components loaded directly into the weapon then it is considered a non-firearm.

    This may be true in some ppls eyes, but not all. For example, in Arden Hills MN a slingshot and even a spring loaded red rider are legally classified as firearms.
