Like it or not, it's (what we typically refer to as) speech. Your opponents get to state their opinions too, even in Congress. They put up something "we" don't like, we have a hissy; "we" put up something "they" don't like, they have a hissy. You certainly have a right to complain. They have a right to complain if I were to put up what I'd consider a really beautiful painting of the manger scene, of Christ's birth. Demanding somebody stop the other guy from doing what we object to gets us no where...even if it is happening on public property. In this case, it's an ugly painting; its premises are faulty and erroneous. Blanket representation of all LEOs as wildebeests (or whatever that's supposed to be) is ignorant...but ugly and erroneous is not particularly sound grounds to demand its removal.

Not trying to pin you down, but I'm just interested: do you believe the ACLU eventually will / should allow you to keep the cross on the Christmas tree in Knightstown (saying "you" in the figurative sense)? Just trying to get an understanding of your position. I've met a good few Christians who feel pretty strongly that "our" side will win out in the marketplace of ideas, because of superiority of numbers, even with all the new religions and viewpoints trying to crowd in. I'm not so optimistic. I don't believe we'll get an even-steven "deal" from the ACLU on subsidized speech in exchange for our high-mindedness. I think the Knightstown attacks will go right on and on, and they will win many more than they lose. Meanwhile, places like the Capitol will continue to fill up with crud, and provide a taxpayer-subsidized exhibit-space for people who want to destroy America.

The ACLU is an organization founded by socialists and if IIRC, they're pretty much separation-of-church-and-state-ist. I woudn't hold my breath expecting them to come to the side of a city defending the erection of a nominally Christian display.

Here's the thing. Everyone is only too happy to take the paid time off from work (if applicable), regardless of their religious beliefs, and to be fair, if Hannukah or Ramadan meant paid time off for me, I would be too. But, honestly. just what symbolism should be used in a Christmas display? I mean, it's a Christian holiday (nevermind the argument that the festivities are loosely timed with the Pagan festival of Saturnalia). Only an idiot would be shocked that Christmas displays would have *gasp* Christian symbols included in them. The ACLU had no problem with Knightstown's tree. Its beef was that the tree's decorations included a cross.

Please show me in the Constitution where it mentions the separation of church and state.

The Constitution is a framework. It is not the totality of the laws of our nation.
If a state ever reached 51% Muslim population, you'd be finding separation of church and state in the Constitution pretty damned quick.

For the record, the cross on the tree in Knightstown doesn't bother me. It's silly, since the Christmas holiday is essentially meant to be a celebration of the birth of Jesus, not his torture and death on the cross, (that's Good Friday/Easter), but whatever. If JFK ever came back, I doubt he'd want his birthday party to be decorated with sniper rifles....but I digress. :):

Dems to rehang painting depicting police as pigs, after GOP rep took it down | Fox News

“The rehanging of this painting for public view represents more than just protecting the rights of a student artist, it is a proud statement in defense of the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which guarantees freedom of expression to every American,” the statement said, noting it had been “removed without permission or proper authority” by Hunter.

Let someone hang a picture of the klan conducting a lynchiing and see how fast the 1A isn't applicable any more.

They've already been taking a dump on the 1st Amendment. Look at the books that have been banned, like Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Uncle Tom's Cabin, etc.. The 1st Amendment protects only their (liberals) freedom of speech apparently.
