I am very new to firearms and really want to be able to learn how to use them safely and responsibly. I am researching the site for resources that will help that. Do I need a carry permit to take my firearms to a range?

No, you do not, provided it's properly cased and inaccessible. You should take some time to read the INGO FAQ, which is linked in my sig.

You do not. However while you are transporting them they need to be locked up and out of reach and separate from your ammo. This is assuming that you live in Indiana and not the communist state of Illinois.
