Having a debate at work. Is it illegal to carry (with a ltch) and drink alcohol, at a bar or otherwise? Please help.

Not in Indiana. It is legal to carry in a bar and with alcohol in hand.

The question always becomes, how smart is it?

If I remember correctly, there is no statute for it, which is why it's legal.

Of course, if there is a statute, someone will probably point it out.

There is an adminstrative process wherein a complaint can be filed with the state subjecting the LTCH to review. They need some sort of proof that the license holder is abusing the permit though.
