I bought all my stuff off ebay to get started. Lyman 1200 (I think) and a ohaus 505 balance beam scale. I've since upgraded to a digital scale by rcbs and the tumbler has just about seen its last days... I'm actually in the process of starting to make a tumbler. Motor, two parallel shafts and a homemade tube out of pvc. I will make two tubes; one for dry media and one for wet. Have fun & good luck!

Berrys bullets has a tumbler they call the "blueberry"...it comes as a kit with media, tumbler, polish, and a 5 gal bucket...for around $65.

Its dead quiet and has a good warranty.

As far as the scale goes...any digital scale is usually decent...the hornady scale is about $40.

    God bless

I have a Cabelas brand tumbler and it came with a few things. I dont remember the price but it was a good deal on a sale they had. It is about three years old now and works real good. In fact it is running right now. I was also just at Harbor Freight and they had one that seemed reasonable.

Dont skimp on the scale. Spend the money and get a good one. I got a RCBS dispencer/scale and it is sweet. I got it on sale with a 50 dollar rebate from RCBS and used my Cabelas points so it only cost me like fifty bucks out of pocket. Just d some research.

For me, Flea-Bay has been a good source in the past-I'm sure NOW these things will be higher than they were?? As a suggestion-stay with the top-name brand=RCBS,Redding,Dillon, etc.

Shread, I would have to disagree with you. A QUALITY BEAM type scale will probably be a first time loaders best bet.. I DO use the digital for back up+speed though.

+100..A re-loader's scale and calipers are the MOST important tools for the SAFE hand-loads to be made...Bill.

We have 2 tumblers one is a Dillion, couldn't tell you the other one, both work great.
As for the scale you can't beat the 505 its easy to use and works great.
    Don't forget the calipers!
