    Open Carry?

I have owned handguns for over 40 years and concealed carried for over 40 years. Personally, except when hunting or on the range, I have always preferred not to open carry. I prefer to be discrete with my weapons. I do not desire to draw attention to myself or my party. If asked what I am carrying, I might tell you but I'll never let you see unless I am in the hunting field, on the range, or at home. Robert a. Heinlein once stated, "An armed society is a polite society". I agree but also acknowledge that with our right to defend ourselves also comes a responsibility to act prudently, judicially, and respectfully. I avoid establishments that prohibit or infringe upon my rights just as I avoid individuals or organizations that seek to deny me my God given freedom. I say this not to promote debate or disention among the ranks but rather do so as a statement of my personal creed. I visit this site often both to contribute but mostly to learn and fellowship with other like minded gun owners and patriotic Americans. Good shooting.

author of quote corrected - thanks.

Simon Security once told me, "Hey, could you do me a favor and just cover it up?"

    and your reply?

"hey, why don't you do yourself a favor and go hassle those kids for loitering and let us law abiding citizens go about our business!"

OC or CC you should always be aware of co. policy. I'm not talking just about OP's situation. He learned the hard way. Either put up or shut up (no pun intended). In our case, either conceal or just don't shop there anymore. OC does not mean irresponsible gun ownership. Though there is a time and a place for everything. Castleton Square Mall is not the place to OC. If your worried about being "made". Go through JC Penny or Dicks Sporting Goods and say you didn't see a policy. I'm sure they'll remember you.

Put yourself in mall security's position. Private property with a no firearms policy. You're openly violating that policy. There is a level of expectation from management and the hundreds of other shoppers that the security folks do their jobs. If you are CC, then no one knows or probably even cares.

I've had mall cops at a certain property (that I won't mention because I don't want them getting in trouble, but it's possible that it's owned by well-known corporation in Indy that we may or may not be discussing) tell me that they're fine with me carrying as long as I don't force them to take "official" notice of it. When they're forced to deal with it, they're going to toe the company line (as they should).

If they don't want people carrying openly, they should post their property rule more prominently.

If they don't want people carrying at all... well, there just isn't much they can do about that.

Sounds to me like they are trying to minimalize their liability in case of a discharge in the property. If they didnt have a policy they may be held more liable in such an event.

I take solace in the fact that in malls I am protected by Gecko45 and his like-minded rapid response force who can take care of any threat and put everything five-by-five in short order.

I got as far as this post, and was laughing so hard I couldnt read the rest! That guy is awesome!
I bet every mall has one, they just dont know it because hes cruising the mens room protecting young boys...LMAO!!!!!

Now that Ive read the rest....lol....
I generally am a CC guy. I dont care what you do. You have your reasons and I have mine...thats good enough.
I will say that once when discussing it, the thought came up that a guy OCing would be a first target....but then they would have to see it first, and to do so, be at the right angle to the person, and have a clear view...etc, etc...so not all that easy.
Anyway, to each his own. You OC, great...I CC most times.

Id bet Scutter's comment about the big mall goes with a lot of places. They dont care unless you flaunt it, then you asked for the reprimand. CC in those places, do whatever in others I guess...but I know Im not taking mine off, sign or no. I know from past experience that a "NO GUNS" sign is a good way to attract bad people who dont care about signs....heck, lots of VPs around here had them, but did any of the robbers care? Nope...but then maybe they couldnt read either.

I can understand not wanted people to OC at the mall (not that I support/agree). People still freak out whenever they see a gun because the Lib media only portrays guns in a negative light. Hell most people don't even know you can OC in Indiana!

They took it, and I'm pretty sure it is. I had one young early 20 something cop and one with a bad attitude and 2 others. I just wanted to leave, I was hungry.

I doubt it is legal for him to take it from you, but he can ask nicely for you to give it to him. The interesting thing is, what if he doesn't have a LTCH, then wouldnt he be breaking the law by carrying your weapon in public? What if he is a dumbass that doesn't even know how pistols work, and he tries to unload it, and ends up shooting someone in the foot? I'd have to tell them that they can cuff me and escort me off the premises, but not to touch my loaded gun. I have a new firm policy that my gun will not leave its holster in public unless worst comes to worst.

I believe that the OP stated that a LEO took his sidearm. This, while a violation of his rights, does not require the LEO to have a Larry.

Yes, it's a stupid idea to coonfinger someone's loaded gun in a public place.
