I have to give him some credit for this. Unlike his predecessors he at least has stood up and apologised for the crimes the Chicago cops committed. Sadly, no real justice will ever be served against the cops who tortured false confessions out of people and sent them to prison for crimes they didn't commit. While not a proponent of capital punishment, I might be convinced to overlook it in this case. Everyone involved in these crimes deserves to be punished. Instead they're all walking away laughing, while the taxpayers of Chicago foot the bills.

Burge is in prison. Not exactly walking away scott free.
True, but he's not in prison for what he did to those people. He's in prison for perjury, for lying about it in a civil case. Not even remotely the same as what he might have received (in a just system, fairly balanced) had he been convicted of torturing innocent people.

Hell, he's already half-way through his 4 years of hard time. What a price to pay for destroying hundreds of lives.

And what of all his accomplices and henchmen? There are still a bunch of sadistic torturers on the loose out there... collecting paychecks from the city.

Hummm...... I wonder what is going to come out?

Sort of like the person that was apologizing for spying on Americans before it was news anywhere.

Why is Rham doing this? He is a political animal.

I always hate this sort of thing... Rahm apologizes for what someone else did? What's the point? Is there some collective guilt that he has assumed as mayor?

So, I guess reparations for this aren't warranted?

Guess he's just adhering to the old adage of "The Buck Stops Here". When you're the head guy **** rolls uphill and you're ultimately the one who has to bear the responsibility. The former mayors certainly didn't come forward and apologise. Not a Rahm fan, but he gets credit for saying the right thing at the right time.

The Burge torture case was the primary reason Illinois abolished the death penalty (and maybe also the fact that the governor thought it might score him some cigarettes when he realized he would likely become an inmate).

It's chicago, they do what they want. Things won't change, they get modified, smoothed over, re interpreted, " reformed", but it's as corrupt as any third world rat hole. The nations capitol is just chicago east.
