Can anyone tell me anything about these kits? How does it effect accuracy? Also, please let me know if this is personal experience or hearsay, as I want to know the truth about these kits. If the website info is true, I think I am going to order one.

I have both a Ciener conversion kit and a dedicated 22lr upper.

The Ciener kit does not provide the same level of accuracy as the dedicated upper but the accuracy is very reasonable. Understand that the accuracy problem is related to the bore dimensions of the barrel. A 223/5.56 rifle bullet has a larger diameter than a 22lr bullet. So when you fire a 22lr it does not get the same level of stabilization with the lands/groves of the barrel that a 223/5.56 bullet will get. So the guns with conversion kits, of any brand, will not be quite as accurate as a dedicated upper, but they are still minute of squirrel out to 40 or 50 yards. You just won't win smallest group target matches with a conversion kit at those ranges.

If you are going to be getting a conversion, go with the Spike's or CMMG over the Ciener. You won't be disappointed. www.spikestactical.com They are electroless nickel and don't require the lubrication that the Ciener does. The Spike's also has a few features that help aid reliability and function that you won't find on the Ciener. Their customer service is light-years ahead of Ciener also.... I have 3 of their fine .22 conversions...

I have a related question as I am interested in buying a .22LR conversion kit for the AR I am slowly but surely buying and building. It has been my experience that .22 ammo, (especially the bulk packs) can be really dirty ammunition. Will all of the excess garbage from the .22 ammo negatively impact the AR any more than shoothing .223/5.56? I clean my guns religiously after shooting, (I really enjoy it), so it would be clean regardless of how often or how many rounds I ran through it.

    .22LR conversion kit for AR-15 [.22LRconvKit] - $199.99 : Spikes Tactical

This looks like the same one Scutter told me to get if I buy one. Well, my mind's made up then, just have to wait for the rifle parts to show up and then I'll be in business!

good friend has a ciener F/A conversion and had to fiddle with it for quite some time to get proper operation out of it. Ciener was absolutely no help. his phone calls were basically answered with, "I'm too busy to screw around helping customers." that sold me on ANYBODY else.

I bought a Ceiner because, at the time, it was all I could find. So far, it's been reliable, but it wasn't my first choice then, and it's not my first choice now.

Yep. When I bought mine, the only other drop-in kit available was the M261. Plus, I got it super cheap ($40, with a 30rd Ciener mag), so I couldn't exactly say no. ;) It has been completely reliable, but I'll be picking up some spare parts (springs, extractor, firing pin) for it from Spikes or Lakeside Machine, just in case.
