Under DOE's regulations, energy efficiency gains will be achieved with 75% of the transformers on the market being manufactured with grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) (that is not produced in the USA or Canada, only imported from China and India)and another 25% being manufactured with amorphous alloy(all produced fully in the USA,and they tried to make this number 0 originally).

In other words the new standard is forcing manufacturing overseas for most transformers.

"These standards are going to make America's power grid more resilient," said DOE Secretary Jennifer Granholm, adding "They'll support good-paying, high-quality manufacturing jobs,(but not in the USA) and they'll help us deploy more affordable and reliable and clean electricity more quickly across the country."

The new standards are a scaled-down version of regulations first proposed by the DOE in January 2023, under which 95% of distribution transformers would have been required to be made with amorphous alloy, and manufacturers would have three years to comply.

The original proposal has been widely criticized by power providers and utility companies which said it's unrealistic, leading to bipartisan legislation introduced by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) which would require the DOE to preserve market opportunities for transformer manufacturers.

The department of energy needs to be eliminated. It no longer serves a useful purpose.

Several other departments fall into that category as well.
Yeah, I don't see the point of Department of Education other than to coordinate youth indoctrination. It's been a cabinet level department since Jimmy Carter and U.S. education performance compared to the world has steadily dropped. Time to ****-can those ************s.

I see dozens and dozens of positive things the DoE SHOULD be in place for, and they probably were at their inception, but somewhere along the line that train got way off onto the wrong track

Should and is are unfortunately not the same. The DoE has never helped test scores compared with other countries. And now it's mostly about helping ClownWorld™ teachers teach kids to be clowns.
