Alright. I've been out of the loop for awhile and want to get my feet wet again. I've read a book by Glenn Beck called "Common Sense". And this book has really opened my eyes and caused me to pull my head out of the sand. Anyone have any feed back? I need a starting point to get some education in our politics. I have only myself to blame for my ignorance, but who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? So please be nice I'm still a newbie.:twocents:

I havent read the book. And for the most part, I like what GB has to say.
my advice would research as many viewpoint on a topic as possible, somewhere in the middle is the truth. You won't get the full story from any of the Network or Cable News show, but they get you thinking about the issues, in which you can then spend hours online trying to figure out what is real, and what your thoughts are on the situation.

Its a great book I really enjoyed it, I have Beck's other books as well they are good reads. I would first start off by reading The Constitution, and The Declaration of Independence. The 5000 Year Leap is a MUST Im reading that right now. The Real George Washington and Ben Franklin. Anything about Thomas Jefferson is a good find as well. The most important thing is to read about past events that the evil people like Hitler did and how they achived the power grab they got and what they did to their people. Beck usually has good recomandation on his tv show.

The very first book any political newbie should read is Gene Callahan's [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Economics-Real-People-Introduction-Austrian/dp/0945466358"]Economics for Real People[/ame]. It's available as a [ame="https://mises.org/books/econforrealpeople.pdf"]free PDF download[/ame] from the Mises Institute, or you can buy it from Amazon or whatever.

The second book you should read is Thomas J. DiLorenzo's [ame="http://www.amazon.com/How-Capitalism-Saved-America-Pilgrims/dp/1400083311/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1268527909&sr=1-1"]How Capitalism Saved America[/ame].

Between those two, you've got a firm foundation from which to assess any and all political maneuvers, policy proposals, or major media shine jobs.

If you're religious at all, I'd also recommend [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Our-World-Age-Aggression/dp/0963233661"]Healing Our World in an Age of Aggression[/ame], by Mary Ruwart.

I like the title of your post. Common sense is what is lacking in politics. Just remember to look at the entire picture and know that you will never get all that you want and that no one will every agree with you, even if you believe you are absolutely right.

Thanks again for the info. I tried checking out the "5000 year leap" at my library. There are about 30 copys through out and I'm 15th on the waiting list.
