It's an isolated incident, he was just trying to get home at night, excuse, excuse, etc., etc....

It's comments like this that make INGO unbearable for many coworkers that I have told about the site. No one has even tried to defend this officer and yet, you wish to start throwing this bull**** out there.

Theft is theft, regardless of who commits it, and should be punished through the court system like any other crime. The fact that this person is/was a LEO should have no bearing on what the final punishment is.

Your point is well taken, but you do realize that there are reasons such posts are made, right?

Except, it isn't. Arson isn't arson, assault isn't assault, dui isn't dui, etc. when done by a member of The Brotherhood. I guess you probably know that though since you used the word "should" in each sentence. A serial arsonist whom was a member of The Brotherhood isn't going to jail because his safety trumps mine. There are two, very clear, sets of rules. The Brotherhood and the mundanes.

Yes, I realize that there are reasons these kinds of posts are made. There is a vocal minority on here that hate cops and anything a cop does. CarmelHP doesn't usually fit this category, but he did here. The vocal minority actually sound a lot like a racist would. Comments such as, "I wish there were more like him", "I know a few good cops but most...", "Another JBT," only work to further the divide between cops and citizens. Even worse is that the jabs are aimed at cops like myself that visit this site, not at the ones trying to cover crap up.

For a vocal few to spend time searching Google to find stories of cops doing criminal things shows their true intentions. A cop stole a fleeing prostitutes money in Rhode Island? What the hell does this have to do with gun ownership or general politics in Indiana? The OP hates cops because he was arrested on false charges years ago by one cop, again, like the racist that was robbed by a black/hispanic/white/indian/etc. years ago and tries to justify his continued hatred by finding every story of an individual of that same race doing criminal things.

There has been a rash of teachers being accused of criminal (usually molestation/child pornography) things, both in Indiana and around the country in the past few months. No one is making posts of all teachers being crooked.

The reason any behavior is defended at all is because, as a cop, I believe that all others are in the profession for the same reasons I am. I like to help my community and would never do anything to lose the trust of the citizens that I come in contact with daily. The law-breaking LEO's do not read these threads, only those of us that have many of the same values as the other members of INGO.

Yes, I'm very familiar with your post about the cop turned arsonist that isn't going to serve any time in jail. I like the misleading title of your post asking for LEOs to weigh in so you can bash us. I like how you ignore that the officer was arrested by members of his own department and that the prosecutor asked for jail time. I like how, from this one case, you know that any citizen would be sentenced to jail and any cop would be allowed to roam the streets and continue setting fires.

When is dui not dui? I'm just going to assume that the Bisard case will be thrown out there. He is fighting it like any number of citizens do every day. We had a Lilly executive fight one in my jurisdiction just recently, and won. This type of fight is completely normal in a dui case and always will be.

I think you are paritially right, but the perceptions didn't materialize out of thin air.

Teachers don't have immediate power of freedom/imprisonment life/death as police officers do and will, therefore, never receive the level of scrutiny LEOs do. Nor should they, in regard to breaking the law...it is not a teacher's job to enforce the law, as it is for a LEO.

As far as Carmel HP's comment is concerned, you're right, he's not usually in the "cop bashing" crowd....maybe this should give pause for thought.

There are some LEOs/former LEOs on this board who can nearly always be counted on to come out in defense of the LEO when such articles are posted, almost regardless of the circumstances. It gets about as old as the bashing when it happens.
