I think some people do to prevent the very unlikely event that someone sees the picture, then reports that a gun with that number was stolen from them, and that you have it. Small chance it could happen, and even smaller chance that you could be contacted about that gun, but it could happen.

There are a lot of people that read gun forums very closely looking for nefarious behavior, and others that read very closely and try to take advantage of what others have posted. To some it just isn't worth the risk.

If you stole the gun I can see the reason. If you bought it you should have proof of that. Even from a private sale.

With gun stores, it's an ATF thing. Agent told us we weren't allowed to let anyone photograph serial numbers.

Same here. I tried Titanium, but I kept getting a headache trying to mold it to my head.

I used to cover mine, I guess because everyone else did. Now it doesn't matter.

I've not tried titanium, but the lead hat i was wearing seemed to work wonders. I've never felt better.

I always do it, though I don't know why. I've just seen tons of photos online, especially places like Reddit where I browse and look at gun porn... 9 times out of 10 the serial is blurred. <shrugs>
