Well after much thought I went ahead and ordered a DW Specialist 9mm 5 inch, I handled one a few days ago and couldn't get it out of my head. I have had a few DW in then past and they are great handguns for the money in my opinion, I been wanting an Specialist for long while but due to life circumstances I wasn't able to get until now and I'm really looking forward to take it to the range. I did some research and looks like a very flat and soft shooter, that is what I was looking for. this will be more of a home defense tool and show off kind of handgun, I don't plan to baby it but it will be well maintain. I'm looking at a Surefire weapon light and a good holster. I'm very exited and looking forward to taking it to the range.

SWEET! You'll love it, I promise. Soft shooter? Yeah, more like a "squirt gun", the recoil of 9mm in this all-steel gun is unbelievably mild. Plus I think all DW firing pin stops have a nice radius on them to tame down the felt recoil.

I went with the bead blast finish. Did you go stainless or Duty?

Just curious. How does a firing pin stop tame recoil?

Nice I am a big fan of the Duty Treat finish it's basically indestructible. I really like thin VZ grips on my Dan Wessons. Random side note don't ever put masking tape on the Duty Treat it messes it up somehow. And since you are going surefire X-300U looks fantastic on railed 1911's

Solvent will mess it up as well. Ask me how I know... :n00b:

Damn a finish that gun cleaners and tape will mess up? Doesn't seem like much of a Duty finish to me? I like the look of the DW's and have heard good things, but that would be a serious concern for me.

I’d be super pissed if some tape or solvent messed up my “duty finish” on such and expensive 1911!!! Love the looks and I’m sure they shoot straight but wow!!

I was shocked to have solvent mess up the coating on my old DW CCO. I loved that gun, but there should be serious warnings and such in the product materials to prevent such things from happening. Solvents are used often on guns, so the knowledge that it could mess with the coating would have been nice to have known to prevent the damage that occurred.

EDIT: Which is why I brought it up, so the OP knows. I'd make sure to clean any solvent off very well, if used. Or not use anything harsher than CCP on that gun. Even then I'd make sure to wipe it down as well as possible.

Thanks for posting this. I don't often use strong solvents for cleaning, but I'd hate to mess up my DW's if I had a stupid attack. I don't mean your's was a stupid attack, but I've done more stupiderer things. :(

p.s.: to the OP, if they made a Commander size Specialist in 9mm (or dare I say 10mm), I'd already have one. Beautiful pistolla.
