Harry Reid to block spending bills - Rachael Bade and John Bresnahan - POLITICO

Remember that little thing called the sequester that set caps on spending since congress just couldn't figure out a way to function without burning money?

It seems Harry Reid and his crew have grown tired of not being able to waste our tax dollars willy-nilly. Now they're vowing to block GOP budget proposals because they don't include enough wasteful spending.

When the GOP blocked votes they were called obstructionists and accused of holding the government hostage. But it's perfectly okay for the Dems to do it?

The kicker is, somehow Harry thinks if they block a budget and shut down .gov, the GOP will take the blame.

I am so tired of both parties in Washington. Grandstanding, wasting money, and taking our liberties piece by piece seems all they ever do.

IMO its a war. Take of the gloves and attack, no prisoners. I've been hearing this crap about the GOP "shutting down govt" for decades.

The Sequester was good policy. If we stick together in our willingness to see cuts to the Military, we can keep some of those limits in place indefinitely, because Democrats are not likely to regain congressional majorities as long as Hillary is President.

If cutting the Military is the only way to clear the path for domestic budget cuts, then it's time to cut it. Tell your Congressman we aren't your daddy's Republicans anymore, and to tell Harry Reid - block spending all you want.

Congress tries to hide a submarine

I wholeheartedly agree with you Twangbanger. We certainly can't act like the GOP isn't complicit in these games. Especially when it comes to defense spending.

This submarine shell game is something we should all be paying close attention to. It will have long term ramifications over how defense money is counted.

Harry Reid believes the Republicans will be blamed because everyone except Fox News will tell the people the Republicans are to blame.

CNN has been surpising me a bit this past year. They will smack talk the O and have beaten up on Hilldog pretty good.

The media will take shots at Hillary and Obama now that the presidential primaries are ramping up. They want races to be close so they have something to cover.

They don't want Hillary to run away with the nomination, because then they have no story lines.

When conservative Republicans stand up for their principles of smaller and less intrusive government, they're being "obstructionists."
When liberal Democrats stand up for their principles of larger and more intrusive government, they're being "noble."

1/2 inch closer to conservatism is a little away from socialism. I'll vote for people moving in the right direction, even if they're not the ideal candidate.

Conservative republicans and liberal democrats are against small government. They just disagree on who to steal from and where to mail the check to.

we are all forgetting one thing, the base of the left is beyond stupid. They are so gullible that no matter what happens, all the democrats have to do is blame the republicans, and the media will push it, and the republicans will get the blame. This is the real problem, if the base of the left was not so insane and indoctrinated in hate, there would be no craziness like we see right now. Anyone that honestly thinks that lowering taxes for business is bad is beyond nuts. They've done a great job of making the rich evil, while propping up lazy and illegals as the victims. Business)in a free country) has no ties with poor people, other than to pay for them.

If you replace 'conservative' with 'establishment', I would say that your analysis would be flawless.

It is also important to keep in mind that a conservative, by definition, must have something to conserve. When you determine what that may be, you have just identified the substance of the person in question. In my case, the Constitution is the primary thing I wish to conserve, which, incidentally provides for small, non-intrusive government and does not provide for redistribution aside from raising taxes for a limited number of purposes.

You use the term conservative the right way, I was referring to republicans who call themselves conservative. You tell a "conservative" republican that we must cut the bacon and they'll agree until you have to turn off the faucet on the money sink in things they want to spend on. Today the word conservative in American politics has lost all original meaning and is just a label for people on the right. A real conservative and a conservative republican will have a lot to argue about. The latter has no problem with an intrusive government and neither do the liberals. After all they both did vote in recently to keep unconstitutional surveillance practices, they just shifted the burden.

So let me get this straight
if the Dems are in control and the Reps won't vote for their [STRIKE]huge budget[/STRIKE] continuing resolution. Then they are shutting down the government by not voting for it.

If the Reps are in control and the Dems won't vote for the budget, then the Reps are shutting down the government by not putting forth a budget that they can't vote for

    perfectly clear to me
