I like getting paid well enough so that my wife can, by her own choice, stay home with our children and teach them right and wrong. Going out and fixing crap equipment for penny-pinching customers? That part sucks.

Similar experience although totally different field.

If money was not part of the equation I would be doing something else. I'm not dispassionate about what I do but sometimes I have to dig to find it.

Agreed, if I won a substantial amount of money from the lottery (like enough to not worry about anything from a financial aspect), I wouldn't even show up the next day.

However, the true test is the Lottery Question. If you won say $50 million tomorrow, would you still work the same job?

    .

Agreed... honestly, if I won enough to change my lifestyle (not crazy money, but enough to pay off the house, and put the kids through college), I'd be changing jobs, and attitude substantially.

Machinist/Toolmaker been doing this for 24 years. I Love what I am capable of doing, but spend most of the time doing the same thing ,day in day out. My biggest regret was getting out of the service. My enjoyment at work is teaching the new and younger guys. One of the benefits is I am allowed to work on my own projects off the clock.

    I enjoy my job enough.

If I won the lotto that I don't play, I'd probably still work it but would drop my hours down significantly. I can't think of anything I'm passionate enough about to make a career out of it. Unless one can make a living riding motorcycles, smoking cigars, drinking beer, camping, fishing, and avoiding crowds of people. Then I'm all ears.

Computer Networking. LOVE IT. I especially love my company and my job. I could make more elsewhere, but with the flexibility and control I have, I wouldnt have it any other way. I coudlnt have more control unless I went back to being self employed.

I now know firsthand why women tend to make less than men. I'm in one of those job situations where the perks fit my life better than more money ever could. I could possibly make half again as much as I do with a few more certs and moving to a larger company or consulting firm. But then I'd be on the road, long hours, inflexible schedules, and insufferable bosses and "customers". Nooooo thanks!

They say if you truly enjoy what you do you wont work a day in your life. I dont think I've done a day of work in 15 years. :rockwoot:
Interesting. I would say almost the same thing about my job. Only real differences are that I do work for large company and there have been a few times I was not totally happy with my situation. They always worked out though.

I'm a Network Engineer. Been in IT for 24 years, and specialized to networking for the last 17 of them.

I am a small business owner. I started up my RV dealership in 2008 after being laid off from my "normal" job.

From the months of February until September I am here 75 to 85 hours a week. The days are long, some customers are beyond difficult, the paperwork is endless and the buck does stop with me. . . .On the other side of it, I call all the shots, I have past customers who are now friends and I love having just what the family is after and seeing their excitement over their new camper. . . . . I would not trade it for anything.

I rebuild transmissions in cars and trucks and live that aspect of the job. My biggest problem ia working in a large shop but i am the only tech, meaning i also have to pull the transmissions and reinstall. I don't care for that aspect anymore as i het older and the vehicles being more and more difficult to work on, especially the imports. I've been working on cars professionally for 23 years now. The other thing i dont care for is the owner who still thinks its 1970 and transmissions should be able to be pulled, built, and reinstalled in less than a day. Granted some can but others call for over 20 hours book time to do. Guess overall I love building transmissions and the challenge of all the new stuff(6,7,& 8 speed automatics) but hate the pulling and reinstallation. One benefit as someone else mentioned is it pays decent and allows the Mrs. to stay home and raise the kids right and i wouldn't jeopardize that at this point.

I really like my job, most of the time. It sucks when you get cought in the rain and most of the time the winters suck.
Union Pipefitter doing gas distrabution, (Gas mains and services).
I've done it for 18 years now, in a hand full of states. Some areas pay more than others, and each gas company has their own rules. I have to test when I go to a new gas company, and renew yearly if I stay in one area that long. Currently certified to work for 5 different gas companies.

I have worked a variety of office jobs in the past. Administrative assistant by title. The best part about that type of work is that pretty much every business/industry needs clerical workers so I got to experience many different environments. I worked at a construction company (payroll and helping prepare bids for jobs) right out of high school. Other jobs included office manager for an amusement park, bank teller, assisting with public relations/development/marketing at the Shedd Aquarium, legal assistant, job placement specialist for Manpower, credentialing specialist for a hospital, and a couple of other misc. jobs. I have also done a bit of retail at times working with family and/or friends. My husband is retired so he wanted me to "retire" too even though I am not retirement age quite yet. To keep from being bored, I help an elderly neighbor a few days a week taking her to appointments and helping her with some physical therapy, shopping, etc. She is like a second mom to me, and we have become quite close.

Of all the jobs I have had, they have all had positives and negatives. The one I liked least was the job placement position. Too many people came in to apply for work, but were only doing it because they had to show they were "looking for work" so they could get their unemployment or to avoid jail time over child support or other legal issues. Most didn't show up for the jobs we sent them to and then came in the next week crying about how badly they needed work.

Finance Manager in subprime lending. I much prefer being a corporate accounts receivable manager. Corporations tend to pay better with less payment hassle.

I applied to the job because I was mad at my manager. It was the first job that popped up after I updated my resume. Two days later I was interviewed and offered the job.

I really like the people I work with. I like my employees. There's too much politics sometimes. I don't work that hard. My brain gets a little bored on occasion. My schedule sucks but is flexible. Most days I like it.

near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
I love teaching EMS and special rescue. I wish I could do more of it. My other part time job as a first responder pays pretty well and on a daily basis is mostly boring which is good (the rest of my life has plenty of excitement), but the level of BS from management is pretty high. I don't need to work full time but it is difficult to find PT work that pays enough to be worth it to me.

I used to have the best job in the world. Then they decided they needed electrical engineers to be first responders rather than the electricians that were hired for the job. We went from doing challenging projects and actual engineering work to spreading smart people out over three shifts and having them wait for the phone to ring. My job changed from engineering manager to glorified Wendy's manager. No disrespect intended, it's just that I went from running projects to figuring out work schedules and listening to boring reasons why so-and-so needed off the weekend they were scheduled to work.

I'm a truck driver now. I was in the RV industry for over 10 years. Hated it. I've been driving a truck for 8 years, 5 years at my current job. I drive a fuel truck...a big one. I get paid by the hour which is rare for a trucker. My benifits are awesome. I really love my job. I work 4 days a week (12 hr shift). The majority of days I say I get paid to listen to the radio. Then there is the not so good days that always involve snow and ice. But if it gets too bad, I just park the truck and go home. It's my call and my company has always supported me when I do stop.

I guess a really bad day (including fire and a big BOOM) could put a damper on things but that's in God's hands, not mine.

    Interesting group we have here.

I'm in IT Field Service for a large health care provider. It runs the gamut from one extreme to the other. Most of my end users are really good. I support hardware & sw for clinics all the way out to Hawaii & AK but only have a ~4 hour drive radius for on-site issues. Getting out of the office is nice once in a while.

HQ is taking too much technology away from my group though. I need a challenge or my brain turns to mush. I guess I need more IT certs.

I'm in sales, and work purely on commission. I've been in sales for about 4 years and absolutely love it. I just moved into the world of commission a couple months ago, and am finding that I really like that too.

The up side is that the harder I work, the more I make. The down side is that you may have the occasional week where you only bring home $300. But you may also have an occasional week where you bring home well over $1000.

Union construction trades. I'm not sure I love it, I've never done anything else except military service.
It pays well and I'll retire at 55. I sure wish I would've continued my education and at least tried something better and I certainly wouldn't encourage my children to follow in my footsteps.............................sure sounds like a no.

I quit a job as plant manager of a manufacturing company a little over a year ago, owner was a jerk and treated all employee poorly. I have been a manager in the concrete industry for over 25 years and am sick of it. I just started a new job today, switched to a different industry, to early to tell but it appears to be a well run company that cares about their employees. At this point in my life I am not driven by money I am interested in my quality of life.

I'm a Sales Mgr for an adhesive company that is part of a 17 billion dollar Corporation.
I have been there for 19 years. There have been ups and downs in the 19 years but I have discovered if you can wait it out sometimes the person above you won't last and you get rewarded for staying with them.

I have some awesome perks with my job and the pay is really good.

I would have to say that I do love my job.

Presently about 12 years at a big box lumber company, in sales to the public. Started out in appliances & wasn't happy knowing that customer would be back in few years for another washer or dryer. Decided to move into the windows & doors dept, that made a big change for me. I felt I was actually helping that customer now. YES I do love working with people .

Prior to that , I put in 22 years in counter sales with the welding industry. Left because of management .
