My great x 3 grandfather (or so, if I remember correctly) was actually killed when his dog shot him. In the dogs defense though, my ancestor was climbing off of his horse and the dog tried to jump on his lap. He was carrying a long gun at the time and the dog's back foot caught a claw in the trigger guard. He died a few hours later...

Reportedly, his wife took great care of the dog afterwards and spoiled him endlessly...

It's because the own didn't even know what caliber it was! There's another report floating out there that states the driver thought it was an unloaded .380 and it turned out to be a loaded 9mm.
