I do for my SKS (which takes AK mags) because I found it is easier to insert the mag with one less. The springs in full mags really aren't an issue, so I do it for purely functional reasons.

I store my SKS mags empty as this is my last resort, in case of emergency break glass gun. I hope to never have to use "my commie peasant rifle" as I refer to it.
Now for my AR-10 and AR-15 platforms that is another matter ....

I don't have Hi cap magazines ..... Mine are all standard issue, 20 or 30 round .....

Most of mine are .Mil., so the .Mil., taught me to load 27 rounds .....

That is what I do ..... Now, how many mags, I have, is another matter .....

Only my hairdresser, knows for sure .....

All PMAG's are stored at 30 rounds, rifle is kept 30+1.

I could care less about protecting feed lips or any other bs, its a $10 mag, it is goes to crap 10 years later I will throw it in the trash and grab another.

I'm just too high tech, I guess, when I read the title of the thread, I was thinking "downloading files to a 3D printer to make magazines." Cool!

    But no.

At a lower tech level, I have an AK, does not need downloaded magazines. So no.

Pmags get 28 for proper function, Lancers 30.

Pretty sure I have a few still in the factory packaging around here. Otherwise they are magazines, their job is to hold bullets.

Just to toss this out there... Not all springs are created equal.

I have a Mossberg 500A. I used it for a home defense gun for a while; I kept it topped off, and it sat fully loaded for 5-7 years with no use. I finally unloaded it and discovered that the last round would not get delivered to the elevator completely. The spring wouldnt send the follower all the way home. I even went so far as to buy a new spring. Unfortunately for me, the magazine tube was a bit too tight and I couldnt get it off without fear of damage, so I let it be.

Fortunately, leaving it in the safe unloaded for several years allowed the spring to return to full function and deliver that last round reliably.

Granted, tube springs are a different animal than magazine springs, but in certain circumstances you can over-compress a spring.

I do keep my AR mags topped off, regardless of my Mossberg experience.

Had the same happen on a Maverick I had in storage for a couple of years a long time ago. The magazine springs that Mossberg uses are pretty weak. I replaced it with a Wolff unit and had it stored for the past four years, took it out a few months ago and no problem.

It's a good video and Reid's a very intelligent man.

AR-15 30rd mags get stored with 28 rounds in them period. My 20rd AR-15 mags I keep at a full 20rds because they're only a 20rd mag to start with. AK mags are left at 30rds all the time.

    That literally makes no sense.
