Hand guard, is it one piece or two? I'd like to go with something with rails, but really don't want to pay a smith to do it if this is a one piece item.

I can get the ring to slide out of the way, the entire hand guard will move forward and back, but I can't get it to split and take sections out.

    Any help is appreciated.

Are you trying to pull them apart Right to Left, or Top to Bottom?

    (does that make sense?)

Yes it makes sense and it has to be bottom top because of the seam in the plastic. The after market ones I've looked at are either right/left or top/bottom so I understand where you're coming from.
