    Got plain black 1911 I was thinking of dressing up a little with a new dura coat finish, anyone ever done this before or seen one that's been done?:patriot:How well do they hold up?

    duracoat does not hold up to holster wear that great. leather holsters are not bad but the cheaper plastic friction lock holsters will wear it down pretty fast.

    I,ve got a blachawk plastic holster that I use for my 1911's, and I was afraid that might be a problem.

    I think it would look good in desert or coyote tan with black grips. At least if you do it yourself you can always give it another layer if it starts to wear down.

    Here is a Kimber Clackamas duracoated in FDE. I purchased it this way, so I don't know who did the work. It has held up really well, but I don't carry it, so I don't know about how it would hold up to holster wear.

    Crappy pictures don't do it justice. The shiny spots are oil.
