I will continue to work for effective gun laws, including reinstatement of the assault weapons ban that the last Congress allowed to expire, and effective law enforcement. I will also speak out against the culture of violence that traps so many of our young people.
Thank you again for contacting me on this important issue.

    Sincerely,
    Barack Obama

His campaign sent me this in response to a specific query regarding his gun views.

Email Obama and Clinton, and force both of them to address this. Please ask them pointed questions at a town hall meeting. Either they publicly state their views, or squirm and try to hide (and look like they are being intentionally deceptive). Force them to say firmly and publicly what their true views are. Enough of this hiding behind false sportsmans groups! All I am asking for is the truth!

Obama lives in Chicago and was raised in Hawaii. He was raised in very anti-gun regions, and he is clearly out of touch with the rest of the U.S. by virtue of his background. The rest of the U.S. is actually expanding gun owners rights (Castle Doctrine in Florida, Concealed Carry in Ohio, etc, etc.).

So as long as I build my AR before a new ban would take affect I'm fine?

    Maybe I'll build a couple.

There is absolutely no way to know whether or not you'd be fine. We could only speculate based on the details of the previous ban. The new version is likely to be much worse in terms of the number of guns it will ban, and there will be no sunset. There is also no guarantee there will be any grandfathering at all. They might just make civilian possession of self-loading rifles illegal period.

Can't happen? Both houses of Congress are controlled by socialist-statists. Either Obama or Hillary would make it one of (if not the) top priority to work with them to get a new ban into place.

It never ceases to amaze me how people like Obama continue to be so naive and ignorant when it comes to gun control. It's going to have to be McCain this time around even if he's not that great.

Do you mean people who will vote for Obama are naive and ignorant? (I agree with that)

However, I believe that Obama knows exactly what he's doing. He wants people disarmed because it's easier to control them that way. Like many other elitists, he doesn't trust you to make your own decisions, much less have the means to defend yourself. He wants you dependent on the government-mommy for all of your needs.

I'm not so sure. I've read his books and it seems in them that he is honestly one of those people who sincerely believes getting rid of guns will help solve the problem. You may be right however.

Karl Marx and Stephen King are/were both very successful authors :rolleyesedit: that doesn't mean everything that they wrote was factual or correct.

Criticizing Senator OBama's elitist anti gun views or NOT voting for OBama does not make you an evil racist.

If you feel that weapons in your possession are evil or a threat to the rest of us, Please run, do not walk to the nearest police station and turn them in, for the world will be a safer place - BS

For a man to sit and listen for over 20 years to the anti American, racist views of Jeremiah Wright and then for this same man to infer racist labels on people who disagree with his flawed elitists views is simply incredible.

There does not exist a shred of sincerity in that man's body.

The fact that he can mimic sincerity so well in his writing and his public persona is a huge part of the problem. That's one of the reasons why weak-minded people are so easily swayed by his personality during his performances. He's very much like former President Clinton in that regard.
