I read this in the AGLOW newsletter today and thought some of you would appreciate them moving to Indiana.

Engel Ballistic Research Inc., (EBR)is offering specialized ammunition for big game hunters and avid targetshooters. EBR’s wide range of subsonic and frangible ammunitions –originally designed for law enforcement and military-specific use – willnow be available for purchase within civilian markets.

The company has been producing ammunition at the Texas facilitysince 1996. An increase in demand for subsonic ammunition requiredEBR to recently move its day-to-day operations and manufacturing site from Texas to Pimento, Ind.This relocation improves EBR’s manufacturing and testing capabilities to better serve the commercialammunition market.

“EBR produces multiple calibers of military-grade, subsonic, and frangible munitions, which are usedthroughout the world for the unique needs of military, law enforcement, and security purposes,” JohnKnox, CEO of EBR says. “Over the last year EBR has updated its subsonic line with the addition ofexpanding and fracturing projectiles that maximize performance in the hunting market. As hunters andshooters ourselves, we are seeing the versatility of our rounds in the field and at the range, and we wantto offer this product to everyday enthusiasts. We know that the low recoil and noise reduction, as wellas the stopping power of our new expanding rounds, is a superior way to hunt.”

The company recently showcased their rounds to the outdoor media for the first time at theAssociation of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Annual Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Theshooting day event, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, was the first time many lifelonghunters experienced subsonic capabilities.“We had a .300 Win Mag bolt-action rifleshooting our subsonic rounds with a suppressor, and it opened several people’s eyes to thefunctionality and benefits,” Knox says. “Themedia members didn’t need hearing protection, there was little-to-no recoil, and they were ableto accurately place a 220-grain projectile, traveling at 1,000 feet-per-second, on a 100-yardtarget time and time again. I think it excited alot of people. Being able to offer an accurate, proven round in conjunction with noise andrecoil reduction is something we feel huntersand target shooters will appreciate.
EBR’smission-specific ammunition has a place in thebig-game hunting community.”

EBR also introduced a massive new 12-gauge slugdesigned for hunting large game. The 475-grain,copper projectile is unique in that it rapidlyexpands up to 1.4325 inches within the first inch of soft tissue, and is accurate at distances up to 100 yards. “Anyonehunting deer with a shotgun will want this round,” Knox says.

The expanding shotgun round looks interesting. I wonder if they have data for smoothbore shooting. The website indicates a recommended twist rate of 1:35.

I shot some EBR 9mm tracer a few years ago, I was not impressed. About 30% of it didn't light. And yes, I was shooting at a long enough distance to see it light up.
