Ok, so everyone I mention this pistol build to gives me a different answer. -

I know we can run our SBR builds as pistols untill the stamp arrives. And have already sent in the Form 1 for it. I hav a 14.7" Wilson Combat 6.8 barrel on a Spikes upper. Running a YHM phantom QD for a suppresser. So I know it's not a "really" short SBR. But hey it's a starting point; right

the issue I run into is I want to run this on a Sig pistol lower. And I keep hearing the overall length is too long, and makes no longer a pistol. I have a KAK SB buffer tube on the lower, and the Sig SB-15 brace. So I have some additional length on the lower as well. But it is a pistol lower receiver, non the less.

If I was to assemble the upper and lower together, the overall length would be approximately 30.5" Not counting the QD flash- hider. I keep being told a pistol can't be more than 26" overall. Whileothers say assemble it, and have at it. I have had so many guys tell me it's illegal, that I'm not sure what to do. Or maybe just wait a year for the stamp.

Would really like to assemble this, as I'm thinking it would make a heck of a Indiana deer hunting pistol. - what do you guy say?

The 26" thing is what separates a pistol and a "firearm"

If a pistol is over the 26" mark, it looses the "concealability" factor and is still partway a pistol, but it's a firearm, like a Thompson pistol.

So you can't conceal it, and the ATF says at 26" or longer you can mount a VFG without going AOW. (http://www.franklinarmory.com/XO-26_Letter__c_.pdf)

AFAIK, a 30.5" pistol is completely fine.

    "Handgun"
**** Sec. 6. "Handgun" means any firearm:
********(1) designed or adapted so as to be aimed and fired from one (1) hand, regardless of barrel length; or
    ********(2) any firearm with:
************(A) a barrel less than sixteen (16) inches in length; or
************(B) an overall length of less than twenty-six (26) inches.
    As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32.

The key word here is "or" . it only needs to meet one of the length terms. if it said "and", it would need to meet both. This is Indianas' code/definition. m67s' got the federal end covered.
