Always carry at least 1 depending on if carrying a double or single stack gun. Since lately single stacks are my carry 2 extra mags.

I carry 5+1 with the standard mag and two additional 7rd extended mags without the grip extensions for ease of carry on my person for my XDs .45acp plus two more loaded 7rd mags in the vehicle.

On the rare occasion that I carry my Hi-Power, I normally carry one more mag in my back pocket. Maybe I need to rethink things. Normally I carry my CM9 IWB with a spare mag in each front pocket. The mags are in leather sneaky pete pouches. Today I was really carrying light, because my pants were too tight. LOL. P238 in right front pocket and only one spare mag in left front pocket.

...That might work on the left side (opposite of appendix) if you wear it low enough, but that's also where your second gun should be anyway.

I haven't quite succeeded in carrying a 2nd gun yet....so that space is open

I keep that space open (back behind the OWB double mag carrier,) to add the second gun or preferably an AR mag carrier. Then my normal first gun becomes my second.
