    Group,

I am in the process of obtaining my FFL 01 and just received a call from the ATF. They are plannning to stop by my place next Friday for an interview/site visit and I was just wondering what they are looking for, going to ask, etc.

As this will will be for a "kitchen table" dealer, do I just need to have a defined area within my home to use as my firearms office and ensure that I have either a gun cabinet/safe or locks? Is there something else that they are looking for or going to ask?

    Thanks for the heads up!

They will do a physical inspection of the site for security, safe storage, etc, and will make sure all your paperwork is good to go.

As this will will be for a "kitchen table" dealer, do I just need to have a defined area within my home to use as my firearms office and ensure that I have either a gun cabinet/safe or locks?

A gunsmith acquaintance of mine got his FFL 01 a few years ago, operating out of his house but using his garage as his workspace. That surprised me, as I didn't think ATF was issuing licenses to folks without an actual retail or business space separate from their home (you always hear about how much they've cracked down on kitchen table dealers in the last 10 years or so).

Good luck; be sure to let us know how everything goes!

1968 gun laws require gunsmiths to have a class 1. It 's the governments own laws that require it. Most gunsmiths would just as much not have to hassle with the paperwork or expense.

Just hope they don't bring the anal probe. Seriously, when the lady arrived, we went over the paperwork, logbooks, that sort of stuff. I asked if she'd like to see my safe. :@ya: She said "The AFT doesn't care where you keep your firearms". I said "ok".:rockwoot: Make sure you ask plenty of questions. I didn't think of any good questions to ask untill I had my license for a few years. Make sure you study the night before. I'm glad I didn't fail my test. That would've been embarassing.

I have been looking into getting my 01 FFL as well, anyone point me in the right direction to get the process started? I have read websites and they seem to be quite vague on the process. So if anyone has and info to throw my way please let me know. Don't mean to jack your thread, just didnt want to create a new one.
