Hi all! I aquired a rock island 1911a1 cs(compact 3.5 inch barrel) and I love it, there is just a great feeling to holding a 1911!! Anyways to my question, I am going to replace the gi sights with some trijicons and replace the thick, and kind of ugly, factory wooden grips with some nicer composite ones, but my question is does any one know what the front sights post size needs to be on a rock island compact? I figured someone here has staked their own 1911 at some point. I watched a video and the person had a different 1911 but the principle is the same for staking mine. Also does any one have a recomendation on which staking tool set they prefer, and the best/cheapest place to obtain a good one. Also while im asking, who makes a good match grade barrel for 1911s that fit a rock island?

Does your gun have a ramped barrel??? If it does there are not many after market pieces available or so I have found. If the barrel has a ramp to guide rounds into the chamber that will narrow the possibility's for you. If the frame has the ramp you should be able to get one through Brownells or any number of suppliers. The tech staff at Brownells are helpful.

I do not believe my barrel is ramped. It has a very small bevel at the bottom but the ramp appears to be on the frame, or alteast compared to a glock 22 barrel where the ramp hangs down from the chamber, my ria 1911 does not.

If the barrel is not a ramped piece like a para then give the good folks at brownells a call and talk to one of the techs. They should have what you need. Be ready to do some fit work as the 1911 has a broad range of fit and finish between all the manufacturers and some parts do not just "Drop in". Not all that difficult but can be tedious. Your gun may require a new barrel bushing as well.
Luck to you on this and enjoy. A 1911 can be just like the grand canyon, it never knows when it is done. They can keep going and going. Mine has.

I think that no one wants to answer the sight question so here it goes .You really wont know until you try out the sights when sighting it in but almost all the sights Ive had replaced shoot close to original point of aim ,sometimes better(assuming you are using fixed sights) most front sight stake post run about the same size but not all ,usually require very patient stoning to fit into the slot perfect. As already mentioned ,if in doubt ,go or call an expert

I took the hint front doublt t. Called brownells, got a price and shipping, turns out the ria are copies of the colt models, so I use the sights from the colt officer models. and to who said the sights and grips are the first to go, I agree completely. I am getting my grips from ebay, 30ish for the wasp textured grips I see on some higher end/custom 1911s. I think it would be pretty sweet looking when I am done, and to who said pics, just wait, I am geting a few items with this years tax refund and when it is all in, I shall post some gun porn.:ingo::ar15:
