Just as a curious mental challenge I started thinking about methods of creating fire that I had either in my truck, on my person, in my EDC bag, in my range box, etc. while shooting today.. Sounds stupid but making mental lists while shooting calms my nerves... Keeping my mind busy is helpful to me.

So how many methods of creating fire do you carry or have ready access to?

I came up with the following..

waterproof matches in my range box
waterproof matches in my EDC bag
strike anywhere matches in my EDC bag in a water proof container
mag starter in my EDC bag
Magnifying Glass in my EDC bag
    Lighter in my EDC bag
Long Reach Lighter for my penny stove in my EDC bag
strike anywhere in an altoids emergency kit in my truck
propane torch in emergency tote in my truck
road flares in my emergency tote in my truck
flint and steel in my EDC bag
    lighter in my pocket

    am I carrying too many???

They only sure way to answer that question is by asking yourself this question; Have I burst into flames recently? If the answer is yes, then you have too many. If it's no, then your just a well prepared person. Just remember that tried and true proverb, 3 is 2, 2 is 1, 1 is none.

Dude, I'm a survival instructor. I've forgotten more ways to make fire than most people can think of. The list above is just what I have laying around, so I didn't name all the esoteric methods like fire thong or concave mirror (coke can and chocolate).

Honestly the 9 Volt Steel wool is something I forgot to list, there is one setup in each bag and one in the truck.

I found small steel wool windings at the Dollar stores for almost nothing.. A couple and a few batteries is all you need.
