    Sounds like a manufacturing process change for the worse. They need to get away from MIM. It's not working for them apparently. At least with the strikers.

    Well, see, the problem is that they didn't bury it for 3 years, dig it up, run a hose over it, and THEN try to shoot it. Duh, problem solved.

    Cast metal parts - are formed by pouring hot melted metal into molds. Metal shrinks when it cools so requires some extra considerations that results in excess metal that must be removed from the part. Surface finish usually has a rough texture imprinted by the mold so might be machined to final shape and texture. Generally not considered as tough as forged but more than adequate for many parts.

    MIM (Metal Injection Molding) - mixes powdered metal with polymers in a slurry that is forced into a mold and subsequently heated (sintered) to remove the binder and form the metallic bonds. Can get some complex shapes and good surface finish with very consistent properties. Mating surfaces are still machined.
