After months of searching, I finally saw some Varget on a store shelf in Evansville -- (Rajo's Guns). The price for the powder, however, prohibited me from making a purchase:

    Varget 1 lb -- $33.95
primers (CCI) -- $5.70 per hundred.

Are the components this outrageously priced in your area?

Nope varget has been on the shelf at my local shop (downhams and son) for over a month at $25 bucks and some change aftertax. Prices went up like .80 cents but it might be the manufacturer raised their price a bit. I avoid price gougers. If I see a business hiking up unfair prices they lose my business for good.

Varget was $21 at Whitackers in Owensboro a couple of weeks ago.

I just can't seem to time my visits to Whitakers when they have Varget in stock. I am down to 2 lb and am starting to get nervous. In the absence of Varget, I have been able to stock up on IMR 8208 XBR

I have read great reviews and hope to post results when I get around to loading some.

8208XBR works GREAT in a 223/5.56...23.2-24.0gr is the ticket with a 75/77gr bullet.

Also reportedly works well in 308, giving high velocities with 155gr and lighter bullets and good accuracy with 168-175s (though giving up a little speed to slightly slower Varget and RL15).
