Official says disgraced Fox Lake cop tried to set up hit - Story | WFLD

An official says an Illinois police officer who killed himself tried to arrange for a gang member "to put a hit" on a village administrator because he feared she would discover he had been embezzling money.

Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman Christopher Covelli also said Thursday that investigators found packets of cocaine in Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz's desk after his Sept. 1 death.

Covelli says investigators recovered deleted text messages in which Gliniewicz mentioned the possibility of planting something on the administrator, Anne Marrin, although he says they don't know if that's why he had the cocaine.

Covelli says Gliniewicz sent the text about arranging the hit to a woman last April, asking for help arranging a meeting with a high-ranking gang member. He declined to give her name.

This is really getting deep. This guy was a desperate twisted piece of work. On top of all this I get the feeling he was trying, in his mind, to somehow regain his honor posthumously by staging his suicide to appear like he died in the line of duty. It worked for a little while until the truth was uncovered.

    What a mess.

That's one of those cases you look at and say "huh...glad that's not my case" and move on. You KNOW there's going to be butt hurt and tinfoil for quite awhile over this one.

I have been to too many police funerals and know the work and stress involved in them. This coward played everyone for a fool. He knew exactly what would happen with such a staged death. This is so very sad and disgusting

Today, the news is about a so-called "sham marriage" between the son and the mistress so the son could get more pay and benefits from the Army...

...assuming any basis for this...what didn't this guy do?

What is the saying. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

Hold on thar a minute, Babba Louie. Considering how your side was waving the Bloody Shirt over his death (when it reeked of fraud from the jump), "boo hoo hoo, they are killing cops, give us more money", extra scrutiny of every police "murder" is most assuredly merited.

Might as well say this now too, extra scrutiny of the entire department is merited. This guy was running a scheme for years with his entire family and his department is complicit in it by looking the other way and even assists in the phony murder.

This stinks as bad as Bisard.

I think they are looking at others within the department. There was even an early (forced?) retirement (chief?) a day or days prior to the suicide.

Don't forget the three "suspects" that were taken in by SWAT and then questioned for hours. Fortunately, they were cleared by a simple restaurant receipt.

Talked to a police officer where I work and he says his colleagues are pretty hot under the collar after donating a ton of personal time to the Fox Lake community on the day of the "murder" and in the weeks following. Not to mention money they donated to fundraisers.

This guy's life is like a turd minefield ... everywhere they turn, they're turning up crap.
Apparently one organization that donated $15K to his family is now asking for the money back. The more I hear about this guy, the scummier he sounds. Pity he didn't do this earlier and without all the deceit.
