Hunted Winamac Friday, no AC in my Jeep, so had windows down. Cornfields had me raspy by the time I got there.
    Forgot my Flonase.
Didn't take any when I got home.
Had a couple of hives pop up yesterday.
Asthma has me running hot, tired...........cranky.
I'll do better after a couple of frosts, but then deer season is then...........and I have a leaf mold allergy (yay oak stands).
Benadryl does nothing for me, relief wise, except make my stomach a little funky.
I do keep some in the truck, in case I get stung.
Keep me good enough to drive to ER.

I used to suffer like that, until my doctor prescibed fluticasone nasal spray. Worked wonders for me. You can now buy it over the counter. One of the name brands is Flonase. But I just use the CVS version. It takes a week or two to take affect once you start using it. Get a bottle today and get started.

My allergies started flaring up. About 4 hours after taking Flonase, I was all cleared up. It works so good for me that I forget to take another dose because I forget that I have alergies.

CM, did you pick up a bottle yet?

Sorry, I did, yes. Between that, and also:

Close the windows and turn on the AC regardless of how nice it feels outside (we prefer fresh air over AC)
Deep clean the house. (stopped just short of shampooing the carpets)
using a Webster and air compressor blower tip to carefully (and ingeniously) completely clean the buildup of dust in the cold air return shaft, removing enough dust bunnies to fill roughly the volume of a 2 gallon bucket. :faint:
replacing the basic pleated AC filter with an allergy guard filter
I havent had to hardly touch my handkerchiefs in 2 days. :rockwoot:

    I actually feel human again!

I don't have seasonal allergies... or so I thought... experienced a bit of allergy symptoms last fall and they hit me like a hammer this week. Terrible terrible itchy, watery eyes & nose, lots of drainage... OTC Claritin has resolved it for me but I feel for those that suffer seriously. I never knew how miserable allergies were until now... IMHO they are worse than a head-cold.

Mine are terrible. I've been taking Zyrtec at night, Allegra in the morning and sudafed during the day with very little relief. I just went to the Dr and got a kenalog shot and amoxicillin for my sinus infection from the allergies. I'll be good to go in about 2 days.

If you are taking multiple allergy medications be sure to run it by your doctor first. Many of them are much stronger than you think and used to be prescription only for a reason.

A nasal spray that works wonders for me is Nasonex, but it may be prescription only. I only have to use it from about mid-August until the first frost.

About 20 years ago, my allergies were so bad I finally went to a specialist. They used a pin to prick two rows of spots in each forearm, then brought out this box with about 50 little vials in it, and put a different liquid on each pin prick. The nurse told me not to rub any of them as it will mix things up and they won't be able to tell what I'm allergic to...,. Then she left the room for 5 minutes. By the time she came back, I had several welts on my arms the size of quarters! I was about to go bonkers! Of course they said I was allergic to pollen, especially ragweed and goldenrod, but I already knew that. They prescribed a nasal spray that helped some, but I still had sneezing fits every day. Then about 10 years ago, my doctor changed me over to Nasonex. Wouldn't even know I had allergies anymore. A couple years ago, I even thought maybe I outgrew my allergies, so I didn't start the Nasonex regimen. Not a good idea. Fortunately, within a day or so of starting it up after that, I was fine.

If you're a semi-regular and/or seasonal allergy sufferer - I HIGHLY recommend a daily "maintenance" dose of an OTC allergy medication like Allegra.

It helps me tremendously. Start your dosing/maintenance BEFORE symptoms begin, however, as it can take several days for your body to adjust to having the medication "boost". And those several days can be miserable.

When it's the season for my allergies, I take my generic Allegra before I go to bed because it makes me a tad drowsy.

I started on Claritan in high school and became immune to it. I've tried the nasal sprays, but they run down the back of my throat and increased my sinus infections a ton. The kenalog shot works wonders for me. Once it kicks in (2-3 days) I don't have to use any other means of medication.

The nurse told me not to rub any of them as it will mix things up and they won't be able to tell what I'm allergic to...,. Then she left the room for 5 minutes...

When I had allergy testing done, they drew a numbered grid on my back and poked me with dozens of possible suspects. The nurse said, I'll be back in 5 minutes. Before she was outta the room, I was dying. My back itched like nothing I'd ever experienced. She walked past the door after 30 seconds or so and peeked in, she looked at me and said, oh my god! I said, honey, that's not something a patient wants to hear from a healthcare provider. She said, I'll go get the doctor right away. When the doc came in he said, damn! Looks like you're allergic to EVERYTHING. Well, except for milk and soybeans. He gave a mirror to check out my back. I looked like I'd been whipped. Quarter inch high red welts running up and down, and back and forth across my back.

When my son needed allergy testing done as teenager, I volunteered to take him. My wife always handled the kids Dr appointments and wanted to know why I wanted to go. I told her, I hate to see my kids in pain, but to see them in mild discomfort amuses the hell outta me.

    I was not disappointed.

His test went much the same as mine, only thanks to modern technology, I could take pics and video with my phone and keep him updated on the progress of his misery. It was a blast.

    There you are.
I went in this morning for a steroid shot, after spending all weekend on the couch with BAD sinus/ear ache. I suffer year round, but about twice a year, they get so bad, I am down and out. I plug up so tight, I have cold sweats, and pain, get very dizzy and off balance. It really sucks. I only wish mine would drain or dry up, ears do not drain as they should and I am down for the count. Do daily Flonaise, and Zyrtec, but still nasty.
