Ignorance of the law is no excuse. So I'm asking:
When did FTF, in state, sales become illegal?

I've always understood that you only had to (by law) do a form transfer if you went through/bought from an FFL dealer.

    When did this change?

    Thanks Ed

Its hasnt changed.? You can still do face to face private sale. The people must not have any reason to believe the other party involved is a felon and/or cannot legally own a firearm.

afik its ok, so long as both parties are residents of the SAME state as the transaction and can both legally own the firearm in question.

Hoosier has to FFL to Buckeye, vice versa.
Hoosier can FTF to Hoosier, IN Indiana.
Hoosier in Ohio has to FFL to Hoosier in Indiana
Buckeye in IN has to FFL to buckeye in IN.

Someone please correct me, but taht is my understanding from the wonderful gun law book that I got from INGO by Bryan L. Ciyou, Esq entitled "Indiana Firearms Law Reference Manual, 3rd edn."

The above is true. You can even ship a long gun to a resident of the same state and it's legal, the same as a FTF.
Some states don't allow FTF sales, California for example requires the sale to go through an FFL and the FFL holds the firearm for I think 10 days.

Not entirely true. You can FTF sell if the long gun is over 50 years old. Did plenty when I was there.

Some FFL's are so spooked, they make you wait 11 days.

For handguns? IIRC it was 1973, transfers of handguns had to go through a dealer. That statute was repealed (I want to say) 1998?

This is based on memory and not looking at Westlaw. Maybe someone who is not outside a courtroom waiting on a CHINS hearing can check on this?
