Can someone tell me the diff. between these two Glocks. I have heald both in a shop, but never fired either one. I have had glocks for many years now for CC and target shooting and I am a new GSSF Member and have plans to try my hand at some of there matches in the spring. I want a glock just for these matches so i dont have to use my carry guns. I have found afew used ones and all seem to have some custom work done. just not sure what to look for in this type Glock. Just because it has custom work dont mean it will work for me. Should i just buy new? Any help will be great
    :dunno:
    Thanks,
    Joe

The only real difference between the 17L and 34 is the barrel length, 6.02 vs. 5.43 inches. The G34 and G35 came about as guns that offered more barrel length and sight radius than their G17 and G22 counterparts while fitting the size requirements for IDPA and USPSA production, the 17L and G24 were too long for those games.

The G34 barrel is compensated, the G17L has the slide cutout but no compensation ports in the barrel.

Not sure about the 34 you held, but only the C models come compensated from the factory (i.e. 34C, 23C, 22C, etc). The 34 and 35 I have seen are not compensated from the factory. Both the 34/35 and 17L/24 have the cut outs on the top of the slide (probably to reduce weight since they use the same recoil spring as the 17/22). All six models are build on the same size frame and use the same parts except the slide and barrel (some come with extended controls too).

Well then doing the math, half of what I was told at the gun store holds true. And thinking the 34s only came as Compensated models kept be from purchasing one too, so I guess the guy talked himself out of a sale:laugh:

Am I going to gain any thing over a standard G17 model by going with the 34? I have a 19 and 21. I do very well with both. But really i shoot the 19 better that is why i wanted to stay with the 9mm. Maybe a G17 is the way to go. Just not sure. Just dont want to spend money on a 17L or 34 to find out i can do just as good with a G17.....So confused...lol:dunno:

I own a G17 now. I had a G34 a while back, but sold it. I read somewhere that the G34 has a barrel length the same as a 1911 .45 ACP. And it was more accurate than the G17. It was a very accurate pistol. I think someone on a Glock shooting team uses or used one. I like my G17 better. I don't miss my ole G34.:):

Do you feel that you shoot the 17 as well as the 34 you had?

You'd gain an advantage (although as slight as it may seem) with the longer sight radius. That's about all I can think of honestly.

I have a G19 and was looking at a 17 or 34. The difference between the 17 and 19 did not seem to justify getting another gun, but the difference between the 19 to the 34 was enough. The longer barrel will get you a couple of things, longer sight radius for better accuracy and fast muzzle velocity, maybe 25-50 fps. As stated before the 34 does have the slide notched out for weight so it can use the same recoil spring as the 17. Also the 34 has a reduced 3.5 connector vs the 5.5 connector, a small but subtle change to the trigger pull. There are a few departments around that have started using the 34 as the standard issue for their officers so if you needed to it could be a backup if something were to happen to your 19 as well.

I really liked my 34. Traded it to a friend a few months back. Thinking of buying it back when the funds allow. It was very accurate. and had faster follow up shots than my 19, which I love BTW.
