    alright so im following these directions.
    1) install the usb driver for your computer (hardest part)
    2) install the mfg software
    3) download the .dat file
    4) upload it to the radio and you are done

    i believe step 1 is complete as i followed the link you provided. now install the mfg software thats the disk right? i load it and its filled iwth files. which file should i use?

    see the linl above where to download the usb drivers that same website has the links to software.
    what comm port is your usb cable? if comm port 1 then use mfg software, if some other best to use chirp and force/tell it where the comm port # is.

    under device manager look under the usb devices (make sure the cable is plugged into the PC)
    you should see a profilic ??sp?? usb device and next to it it will say (com port #) depending on what usb slot u plus the usb cable that comm port # will change. so write it down.

    now on chirp look for RADIO - download from radio - select the com #, vendor and model
    that should still give you a blank file

    but at least you can connect to the radio and probably have 1 freq from the radio. save the file and start putting more freq then upllad to radio

    under Device Manager (are you on WIN 7/8) look under Ports (COM & LPT)
    there should be an entry called
    Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM4)

    Yours may have a different COM #. But remember the COM #.

    Now connect the USB cable to the radio & turn it on.
    Next start up CHIRPS
    At the bottom of CHIRPS you will get a status if CHIRPS find the radio.
    Something like "connected to radio"

    running win ???? what???

    and c**** my win 8 machine just went down!!!!! windows updated itself and now when I restart it says errors and will NOT load windows!!!
