Given the opportunity, I am convinced that he would eliminate anything that could reasonably be considered a weapon including but not limited to firearms, knives of any size (i.e., you may be able to keep paring knives) and any replica medieval weapons you may have procured.

The other side of the same coin is that what gets done will depend largely on how much the House will or will not allow/cave in on us.

I honestly think that Obama isn't the one driving it, but will use his influence to push it.

I think that those pushing for control (Fienstein et al) will push for complete bans of all semi autos and / or magazine fed weapons. They know that will never pass, but they have to start there for negotiations. Just like when you go to buy a car, you never start out with your best offer as your first round of negotiations. You start low, and the salesman starts high...and eventually you strike a deal somewhere in between, or both walk away.

My guess is that at worst a repeat of the 1994 AWB will be the final "agreement" that goes through.

Going too far to fast is political suicide for many Dem's in the House, and Several in the senate that represent fairly gun friendly districts. Obama knows that he'll need support from the dems in the mid-term elections coming up in 2014. The dems made a little progress in the 2012 elections, and hold a very small majority in the Senate, and are still significantly behind in the House.

Likewise, house and senate republicans know that any AWB is potential political death for them as well. If they agree to too much they will be kicked out in 2014. I expect the House to really dig in on this issue and do all they can to tame it down to something less severe.

This is a huge political chess match at this point, which is why I think it won't move too fast. What's at stake (other than our 2A rights)?

If the result of a new AWB is somehow favorable to the Dems and bad for the Republicans, there is a chance that Obama could have an all Democrat House and Senate for his last two terms, meaning he would for all intents and purposes be able to act as dictator.

If the result of a new AWB is somehow not favorable tot he Dems, and the Republicans pick up a few Senate seats in 2014...Obama would have an all Republican Congress for his last two years, likely rendering him more or less useless.

So...long post, but I think it will be slow going and carefully calculated such that this doesn't prove to be a huge topic in the 2014 elections, which will be here before we know it. Gun control is a key tenet of the current Democratic platform...but not so important that they would risk the ability for them to push through things higher on their agenda in terms of taxes on the "wealthy", entitlements, etc.

Oh yes Obama is indeed a driver on this issue. An 'emotiona'l crisis is not to be wasted.
Dianne Feinstein has a good start on the ban she would like to see happen. You can do a quick google search to see whats she is up to. My best guess is the return of gun ban on the same lines as the Bill Clinton/Joe Biden/Chuck Schumer/Dianne Feinstein, 1994 Federal Assault Weapans Ban. That ban lasted just 10 years. I fear we are in for a perminant ban this time.

Look at what the Aussies have, I believe that's about the same we will get. You can have your rifles, but when you die so do they. No sales, trades, passing them down to the kids, etc.

By all the lopsided polls I've seen, it's apparent that the vast majority of Americans don't want gun control. But when did Obama and his tribe ever care what the American people wanted?

I believe Obama will take anything and everything he can. If need be by proxy via Executive order.

I am hoping this is not the case. If he was going to give an executive order, one would think that he would have already done that within a week of the CT incident to strike while the iron was hot.

I tend to agree with the viewpoint that the Dems are going to play this carefully so as not to effect their election chances in 2014.

This is way bigger than guns guys...We are losing our freedoms and liberties. If we continue to let Washington have a bigger and bigger role in our lives pretty soon we live in a country our parents and grand parents won't even recognize. I agree with the above poster that if Obama controls Congress we are in for a bumpy ride.

The Democratic Party is determined to make this a one-party state. To impose this tyranny they must disarm the citizens. They know exactly what they are doing and are well on their way to achieving their goals. Unless the citizens act forcefully, a Ferdinand Marcos wannabe will soon occupy the White House and immediately order the confiscation of all citizen owned firearms.

Over the years the Democratic party has managed to buy their way to power. The many socialist programs that have become a lifestyle for the so called poor has created a huge voting block that will be difficult to over come. The divide and conquer mentality is moving a long at a rapid place. The idea of taxing the wealthy to provide for the lazy is very appealing to those with their handout. There is a bill now to make all AR type weapons a class three firearm. The Dems need to eliminate private gun ownership to move forward to the next step of complete control.

    To All,

I believe President Obama will go as far as public opinion/outcry wants to go and no farther!

President Obama has never been an antigun candidate like Sen Feinstein or Mayor Bloomberg. He has paid limited lip service to some in his base to placate them and then stopped.

That said, some of his antigun base has been handed a tragedy on a silver platter and this has moved the needle for them. So he, the President, will ride along and fight a little, but he won't put up the same struggle like he did on health care reform.

If the anti's in his party give him legislation to sign I am certain he will sign it, but he will leave it up to them to carry the ball.

The only thing that concerns me is VP Biden running a committee on gun control. This man is NOT, like some want to portray him, a patsy for failure. He has been in the Senate for more than 30 years and knows how to get things done. He is a go-to guy! Someone with that much experience should be watched and anything that comes out of that committee needs to be slapped down immediately.

    Regards,

    Doug
