Your experience with Cosner's has obviously been much different than mine. I'm glad you had a positive one. As for me, I would sooner spend an eternity in Hell than give Cosner's a dime of my money. They are rude, arrogant, and condescending, plus their prices are higher than a giraffes testicles.

I'm not writing this to defend Cosner's. I have heard this critique of them over the years and because of it, I'd go in from time to time to fondle and day dream, but never gave them any business.

But when I was shoppIng for my XDm, I gave them a shot (so to speak). They were polite, professional, and competitive. I wound up buying it somewhere else, but Cosner's price was just enough higher to keep me from giving them that sale--but they were competitive.

They got my Kimber business last year...they were low price guy that time. And again, courteous and professional the whole time.

Now, maybe they'd just taken their meds when I dealt with them or finished a Dale Carnegie class or something....I don't know. But those are my experiences.

I stopped in a little gun shop on Bloomington's South Side called Four Seasons this week. I had no intention of buying anything, I just wanted to check the place out. It's small, and their inventory reflects their lack of space, but what they did have was nice. I didn't do any serious price shopping, but I didn't get sticker shock while glancing at tags, so that says they're at least in the ball-game price wise. Also, the gentlemen working there were super nice guys. In fact, after meeting those guys, I decided to use them for a firearms transfer. What really sealed the deal was finding out they charge $15 for a transfer, which is pretty darn affordable.

I'm glad you had a positive buying experience through them. It must just be me. My opinion of them isn't based on one instance, but multiple visits.

Once I went in looking for a particular brand of ammo which they didn't carry, and the guy started bad mouthing that brand and my choice and tried to talk me into something I didn't want. I've wanted to trade in guns before, but they always bash what I bring in and try to low-ball me. They've gotten pissed when I try to haggle with them over their insanely high prices.

I truly wanted to give them my business, but after three or four bad visits where I walk out the door madder than hell, I have to say I'm done with them.

Could be that's the difference....I wasn't trying to make a trade and already knew what I was ready to pay for a new gun so I didn't try to haggle much. It is amazing how many folks that own businesses and how inept they are at dealing with the public.

In my brief time as a member here, I've never heard Harder's Gun Shop in Shoals mentioned. I've purchased one gun from them, and the guy treated me right. He's not the rock-bottom lowest guy around, but his prices are pretty good. Unless something has changed, his shop is only open in the evenings during the week and all day on Saturday. If you don't like cigarette smoke, I would suggest bypassing this place. It could very easily win Indiana's Smokiest Gun Shop Award.

I like to use that Gun Genie feature on the Gallery of Guns web site to compare prices and they always come up and their prices are usually among the lowest around. Never been there though. Thanks for the review.

Just wondering what gun shops you guys go to around southern Indiana? I've been to Orion arms aka Keislers also been to tripple g's and also kemps my favorite is tripple g's tho just for the sheer fact he's help ful and also sell everyone for the same price buds does and it's a cool little shop to just shoot the **** at.
I visit at 2 or more times a week. I've bought several guns there and always been treated good. You will not find better prices anywhere. No need to go anywhere else.

Good post. Nice group of guys there - not too far from my house. The charge for a transfer is a good selling point.

In southern Indiana, Dave's is the best. Rajos is sorta awful, and strictly shooting doesn't seem to carry much of anything. Red ghost isn't bad, but they're really small.

Nothing super close that is amazing.

Dave's in Holland actually just north of I-64 is a nice place, decently stocked, good folks. Prices aren't real good but not game show either. Jeff Miley in Jasper has a nice little shop and gets in interesting trades that he resells at good prices. Great Outdoors in Jasper also has a small, but decent gun selection at pretty good prices. All these folks have been good to deal with in my experience.

As a follow up, I stopped by that gun shop on Hwy 60 in Mitchell on Saturday. Terry Bock is the owner...very small and very limited inventory. Nothing wrong with it, but everything was used, disappointed that I saw nothing that floated my boat---oh welll.

Who in SW Indiana can match Whittaker Guns? Just about everyone I've talked to in the Evansville area say it's worth your time to drive down to Whittaker's.
