Found an interesting article published by the FBI Academy about wound ballistics. Short story is "knock down" power is a myth. To stop a human threat, penetration is the most important element of cartridge selection. The expansion is helpful and the bigger rounds are better (better chance of striking a vital area) but only if sufficient penetration is maintained.
