    definitely a bass and inclined to say smallmouth over largemouth.

    Yep, smallie. Eye color was the primary thing I keyed on in that pic.

    It's a Smallmouth, the outer ring in a Smallmouth's eye is usually red like the one in the OP's picture. .

    Smallmouth.

    Spotted bass look very similar to largemouth. Smallmouth have the red eyes and the lower jaw doesn't extend past the eye.
