I didn't have much to do yesterday so I opened the box containing the Mosin Nagant I had recently purchased and went about the chore of cleaning/removing the cosmoline. I got it all done and even was successful removing the extractor and cleaning it and reinstalling it. Ahhh..one last nook & cranny left...under the rear sight. Sure is easy to drive out pins but now after cleaning it I cannot seem to get things back together. I have done it before and can't recall this much difficulty. Any suggestions on procedure/tools/tricks I might try? Any help would be much appreciated. On a second note, I have a friend who watched a video on YouTube from Iragveteran8888 (I believe that is his address..pretty smart/experienced guy) on how to take the extractor off. My buddy bent his while removing it and wants to know what to do. I told him to join INGO..not sure if he did/has. Any thoughts/recommendations? Man I sure loved the wait outside the building to get into the 1500 on Friday..that likely discouraged me from attending Saturday and/or today. Thanks!:patriot:

It wasn't soldered, I take it? If not, it's probably like the one I mounted a scope on. I never tried to put the sights back on, but I don't think it would have been too bad. You might try heating the site base and then tapping it into place with a small hammer/mallet.

    Does yours look like this?

    P.S. I assume you're talking about a 91/30 and not an M44?

Not sure if you removed the sight blade, or the entire rear sight, or maybe even both.

    But this might help.

Thanks guys! The base was on and after seeing the good info you referred to me it bacame clearer how I did this before. Previously, I used a different type of clamp and got lucky. I will go pick up a small c-clamp to make the job much easier. Great reference material you guys sent. Best to you all!:)

While making no assumptions or assessments to your skill level: If you removed only the rear sight arm/assembly but left the base on the barrel, a c-clamp is the way to go. And also use a round punch through the side of the base, the arm, and the other side to keep the hole lined up while you tap the pivot pin back into place (pushing out the punch in the process).
