I inherited from my father-in-laws estate a what I think is a model 60 S&W 38 spl. It has no model number that I can find and the serial number that is R299XXX. I am not a S&W guy but Smith guns have a great reputation. Does not look at a pinned barrel so I dont think it is a early gun but is in great shape. Looking for infirmatioon on production year or if this is a dash something model?
    Any info will be appreciated
    Thanks

    Unless I am misinterpreting something:

According to the SW bible, R299xxx puts it in the 1980-81 serial number range of R280001 to R300800. That would make it a -1 with a pinned barrel. It doesn't have a pinned barrel. Check that serial number again?

Post up a pic of the stamping inside the yoke and the serial number (block the last three digits, if you want).

Data doesn't match but wouldn't be the first time SW made something that doesn't follow the sequence properly though.
