I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with any man that stands right. Stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.

I may not agree with some of the decisions that Lincoln made, but I understand why he made those choices.
Either way, we wouldn't be the Country that we are now if history had gone differently. Or maybe not, just
different oligarchs running things than those that do now.

    True.

Hell, there might even be a union by consent instead of a union by coercion.

Might have a central state confined to the boundries of the constitution of the united States.

Might not be devolving into a ****hole of socialism on the way to communisim.

Might even have something resembling what the founding fathers put together instead of what they warned of.

Between the ditches, folks. There are a lot of strong feelings on both sides here. I'd point out that this was 160 years ago, but y'all know that.

    Welcome!

I don't care for Lincoln, but didnt mean to be a jerk to the new guy.

The sentiment of the quote is admirable, however i feel about the origin.

Welcome to INGO, OP. Pulled out the big spoon to stir the folks up on your second post, impressive. Would like to better understand the deep thinking behind the quote of an historic figure.

No original text from your perspective?
Translation. Lincoln is saying he’s pragmatically true to what he believes is right. But, I mean. He was a politician. They say stuff. I think that he was pragmatic to a point. Maybe a practical idealist of sorts.

160 years ago? Seems like only yesterday.
