Recently I read a thread on a forum where someone stated Glock improved the case support in the feed ramp area of the chamber, and also made an improvement to prevent "early unlock". Of course we can look at the barrel and see large changes in barrel support, but what was done to prevent early unlock? I took the basic armorer's course last summer, but I don't recall the instructor talking about this. Anyone know?

Don't know, and it, certainly, wasn't brought up in my Glock Armorer's class, either.

Glock (like most manufacturers) is loathe to talk about any changes that give any suggestion something needed to be fixed!

I suspect the old axiom, "Thems that know don't say, and thems that say don't know" will tend to apply in this case.

I never knew it was an issue.

To alter that characteristic though, I believe the changes would be made in the barrel lug. Think, "more rearward travel, before the barrel drops out".

Just brainstorming here, but during R&D, could the additional chamber support have caused pressures to stay higher, longer? Is that the reason Gen4 Glocks all have the two-piece guide rod? That might play some role in retarding the unlock.

If the new RSA offers more resistance while the barrel/slide are in battery, maybe it makes a slight difference in the timing of the unlock. :dunno: I don't own a Gen 4 yet so I am also speculating.
