The SJWs attack things based on popularity and tradition. I wouldn't miss football myself, but I seriously object to these rectal orifices interfering with it. The whole point of that chart was to demonstrate that there are many things that are much higher risk. We shouldn't let our middle-schoolers go base jumping! I'm going to work to have our middle school's base jumping team disbanded! It's for the children!

I'm pretty active in the gaming side of this. Notice they always latch onto the big-name games that get visibility at places like E3... but they never go after the small-potatoes games that don't have a large audience.

They get their clicks and their support by screaming at the big stuff... because they're more likely to be heard.

    John Bain said:
Dont be surprised to see "culture critics" riding E3s top titles for attention, you'll never see them target smaller games.

So, if you want to THINK OF THE CHILDREN, then let's start with some actually dangerous sports.

And what is even more shocking is they appeared to have skewed skydiving dealths higher by limiting it to US only. I recall 2006's USPA report and it was slightly higher worldwide with 29 deaths out of 3.5m jumps.

The USPA (United States Parachute Association) releases the worldwide figures every year (with the help of FAI for the overseas numbers). On average we lose 30 per year world wide. Out of those typically 2/3 are aircraft accidents on the ride to altitude. So not exactly a skydiving fatality as much as a plane accident. of that 1/3, 2/3 of those are a case of "hey 'yall, watch this" aka pilot error where somebody does something stupid or is doing something inherently risky. (think of street racing vs driving to work or the mall) So in my mind, there are typically only 5 or so ACTUAL skydiving fatalities that truly count. Those are the honest to God "it was his time to go" accidents that really werent totally preventable. 3-5 deaths worldwide out of over 3 MILLION jumps is amazingly small. I would venture to guess more jumpers are killed or injured on the highway as they drive to the DZ.

And how in the hell do you die playing table tennis?

Any kind of racing.....cars/planes/bikes/boats.....anything firearms related...... I guess I'm not a "team" player. Things that highlight individual accomplishments. Large groups of people playing with balls/pucks/sticks is boring and a waste of my time.

So there is no team in racing?

According to the chart, over a million people have died in Sweden.
They must be very competitive there.

Different people like different things I get it, is playing football worth losing your life or losing your child?

Another touch of perspective; LIVING is the number one cause of death in the world! Should we all give up living? Ridiculous I know but my point is that life is the thrill of the chase, it's not knowing what's around the next corner, it's about discovery and knowledge. My God man if we all just sit in the corner shivering in fear of every little bump in the road then what's the purpose?

I've got to get back to my sand pile now, my ears are getting cold.

Notice the next time you watch a college football game the number of empty seats in the stands. Even for "big football schools", you'll often see empty seats--even sometimes for the "big games". A lot of this has to do with the price of tickets and the proliferation of HD TVs, no doubt. But some of it has to do with the fact it's expensive for students to go to games now. (It was included in my "activities fee" when I was in college). And some of it has to do with the fact so many people are interested in other sorts of entertainment. I've read articles on this phenomena and it is thought that as fewer students start attending these events and fewer are drawn in the comradory (sp?) and fellowship of the schools' sports identitly, it will help lead to a dwindling interest in football. Plus, you have mommas afraid junior's going to get hurt...I could see a day when football is mere shell of its current self. I'm not saying it's definitely going to happen, just that there are some indicators that could be pointing that way.

FWIW, my son currently plays 8th grade football and it is certainly easy to see that all of the publicity is having an impact in the numbers playing. They have traditionally had "A" team and "B" team games, but this year there have been very few "B" team games because most schools just don't have enough kids playing. This is in Hamilton County, i.e. Carmel, Hamilton Southeastern; traditional football schools.

My son plays 5th grade in Carmel, and I can confirm the observation. We have enough for an all 5th grade team, but are a combined 5th -6th grade, partly because there are only a half-dozen or so 6th graders playing.

Part of it is that the current 6th graders had a... not-so-motivating coach in 3rd grade. So, a bunch dropped out to play soccer, lacrosse, wrestle, or play football for other teams. That's how fine a line it can be. A bad experience and parents and kids can pull them and put them into something else.

Our current coach really does a good job, so I think most of our current 5th graders will stick with it. But, there isn't nearly the pipeline of kids there used to be.
