I usually just rotate the first round in my magazine with the chambered round. Not had any problems with setback that I'm aware of. I always have a round chambered in my nightstand gun.

After reading an article on how it is not a good idea to keep emptying and reloading the same round in your gun due damage and setback, I wonder if its ok to leave a striker fire pistol charged for a long time. I always unload when I come home then put round back in mag for next time.

On modern firearms with modern springs its not an issue with either striker or hammer fired guns. Any guns I either carry or have around the house for home/personal defense is loaded and has been loaded and ready since I've shot it enough to trust it. Revolvers, shotguns, ARs, Glocks, 1911s etc and I have never had a malfunction due to a striker/hammer spring being weak due to being cocked/charged/etc.

ive heard of a round being chambered over and over and the action of going up the feed ramp actually pushing the bullet farther in the case creating higher pressure. I haven't seen it myself but its a though. I know modern ammo is crimped well but still

My life rounds like to stay nice and cozy in a chamber. Set back is/can be real, however if you just shoot every once and a while and don't load and unload, it shouldnt really have to cross your mind. I like to (as stated above) fire off my defense rounds at least once a year. They are pricey, but sometimes you gotta freshen up whats in the pipe... :)

I know this isn't about mag springs, but I've read stuff about finding "grandpas" 1911 mag from the 40's, and shooting them all no problem. I see no reason to worry about any of this stuff, especially on a self defense gun. thats just me...
