I have guns for 4 reasons.

    Game hunting

Eradicating varmints (which, BTW, that is the reason on my Form 1 for the suppressor that I made)

    Recreational shooting

    Self-defense

I have 4 pistols, 2 shotguns, and 2 rifles and I use all of them for recreational shooting.

I was raised on hunting deer, squirrel, rabbit with my rifles.
I don't do much hunting anymore.

Now i prefer to shoot clays, with the shotties,
and other misc targets with the other rifles.

almost entirely a shooter... i love learning about accuracy, internal, external, and terminal ballistics, but dont really enjoy the hunting aspect of it.... i have been deer hunting 3 times and rabbit hunting once and i wasnt a shooter then....
that said, i have been known to put in several 12 hour days on a range just to learn as much as i can...

    Neither, professional soldier...
Never really enjoyed competition shooting. And since baptismal in fire I really don't enjoy hunting that much anymore...

I share your feelings my friend. But I do enjoy competition shooting and Trap and Sporting Clays.
