I hope I am wrong, but is this hammer cocked?

It appears to be a 1911 style pistol, if that matters at all.

It does appear to be cocked, but the safety also appears to be engaged.

    ditto
looks to be a single action with safety engaged. That's how to carry them, unless you wanna carry on an empty chamber like Israeli defense forces

Walking about with the hammer cocked? Might just be me, but I wouldn't do it. Unsafe?

I don't know, thus I ask the forums input. Thank you.

No offense meant, but you need to learn more about the platform. As many have stated, you should not carry a 1911 in any other fashion. Unless of course you just want to bludgeon someone with it.

There seems to be common confusion over hammer fired pistols being carried like this. IMO, it's no different than carrying a striker fire pistol with the firing pin cocked back. The biggest difference being that you can see it physically from the outside.

Personally, I feel like hammer down on a loaded chamber with a 1911 is MORE dangerous tha cocked and locked, especially with pre- series 80 designs.

I can somewhat understand the OP's concern. I mean, if that is a .45 1911 (as God intended), there's a real risk of soul-robbing from people who might get too close to it in that carry-condition.

    Because the children.

You don't even have to be close, just see it. I knew I had special powers when OCing my 1911...

    Down by the river.
I would think that safety would be the number one concern. Not sure what the terminology is but, the half cocked or safety cocked position would seem safer to me, just my thoughts.

I could be wrong, and no, it is not about the children, it's about not having an accidental discharge.
