I have no suggestions for a scope, I'm a few steps behind the spot you're in.

I do know the feeling of having 'sniper powers' that you speak of.

I had the pleasure of shooting an FBI guy's .308 at the plainfield facility a few weeks ago (incredible range btw). There was a line of us civilians so I didn't get to ask him much about his set up.

All I can say is that the Trigger: awesome. Scope: big and bright, despite having no illuminating internals and simple crosshairs.

I kick myself for not interrogating him about what I'd just killed a 4 of clubs with.

It has been occupying my mind a lot lately. .308 .308 .308 and I always was a .30-06 guy from mighigan days.

The scope you were shooting was an IOR. They have really good glass but their internals leave a bit to be desired and as a result I avoid them.

If you're planning to use it for shooting long range on a regular basis save your pennies and top that new rifle with a Nightforce NXS. Their 3.5-15X and 5.5-22X scopes are the best bang for the buck. Tough as nails, great glass, solid internals, illuminated reticles and you can get a reticle which matches the turrets.

    Congrats on the new rifle!

Thanks for the advice, Phylodog! I will get look for one and check on prices.
