Lincoln held some seriously racist views. He appears to have found breakaway States a lot more horrible than slavery, too. (Someone else can cite quotes.)

Most slave-holding countries managed to end the practice without fighting a war over it; in the U. S. Civil War, there were a lot of other issues involved. "Ending slavery" was pretty much the only unalloyed good to come from that war, so it's no wonder history has focused on it and not on things like the growth in Federal power at the expense of the States.

Actually,it was like,"If you try to leave the union by taking over our military positions in the south, we will prevent you from leaving." The "racism" issue was simply the reason behind the reason the south was leaving. Also, calling slavery "racism" is probably an understatement, don't you think?

Lincoln did what he had to do to keep this country together. He wasn't perfect as some 21st century quarterbacks on INGO are but thats life. I guess those who think Lincoln should have left the south alone must think that life would have somehow been better if he had. I highly doubt it would have been better for anyone for very long, let alone the slaves.
